Velvet Moon – The Story and Strength of an Exceptional Strain

The world of cannabis is constantly evolving, with new hybrids emerging all the time, yet some strains leave a deeper mark on us. Velvet Moon is exactly that: a hybrid that stands out not only for its genetic stability and distinctive aromas, but also for the bond its growers and consumers form with it.
For me, Velvet Moon carries special personal meaning: it appeared as a clon at Grow Island five times, precisely because I loved it so much we had to bring it back again and again. That’s how it became not only a favorite strain, but also one of the first “iconic” figures of WikiMaryLeaf.
Genetic Background — When Two Worlds Meet
Velvet Moon was born from the cross Do-Si-Dos × Holy Punch. This pairing is one of the most exciting combinations in modern cannabis genetics:
- Do-Si-Dos: a legendary strain from the OG Kush Breath line, with deep earthy-mint aromas and relaxing effects.
- Holy Punch: a Green House Seeds classic with a sweet, fruity profile and balanced effect.
The fusion of the two produced Velvet Moon, embodying both a soothing, earthy character and cheerful, citrusy sweetness.

Growth & Cultivation
Velvet Moon is a medium-sized plant with vigorous side branches and a symmetrical structure. It’s easy to manage, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced growers.
- Indoors: 8–9 weeks of flowering. Prefers a stable environment and responds well to training techniques (LST, topping).
- Outdoors: ready to harvest in early October, particularly rewarding in Mediterranean climates.
- Yield: medium to high, with compact, resinous flowers.
THC Content
According to Green House Seeds, the THC content is about 23.5%, though several sources mention 20–28%. From my own cultivation I measured 25.73% THC, which is exceptionally high.
Aroma & Terpene Profile
Velvet Moon is a true terpene standout with two distinctly different phenotypes:
- Phenotype 1: medium-sized, strongly purple-tinging plant with sweet citrus, earthy notes and a slight grape hint.
- Phenotype 2: also shows a purple hue, but less intense — its scent is distinctive, reminiscent of “cat urine,” yet it fits surprisingly well with the kush base.
- On inhale: fruity sweetness dominates.
- On exhale: the earthy, kush depth of Do-Si-Dos closes the loop.
This duality makes it truly unique: it offers both a refreshing, fruity sparkle and a grounding kush experience.

Effects & Experience
Despite its hybrid nature, Velvet Moon’s effect leans strongly indica-dominant:
- Initially: euphoric, cheerful and sparks creative thoughts.
- Later: deep relaxation that embraces you and slows the world down.
Ideal for evening use, social conversations and creative projects where flow matters.
The Story of Velvet Moon & Grow Island
Grow Island is not just a store — it’s a community and a place for experiences. Velvet Moon made it into the lineup as a clon specifically because of my attachment to it.
This clearly shows how a bond can form between a genetics and a community. That’s how Velvet Moon became my personal favorite and one of Grow Island’s special pieces.

What I Know for Sure
Velvet Moon is more than just another hybrid on the market. It’s a story: the meeting of Do-Si-Dos’ power and Holy Punch’s sweetness, from which a unique, harmonious strain was born.
For me, it means even more: it inspired the launch of WikiMaryLeaf.
Once you try it, you’ll understand why it keeps getting brought back into cultivation — because you simply can’t get enough of it.
